Muriel Furrer Dies After Crash At Junior World Championships

International Cycling Union confirmed on Friday the death of young Swiss rider Muriel Furrer , who had suffered an accident during her participation in the Junior Women’s World Championships being held in Zurich.

“It is with great sadness that we have received the news of the passing of the young Swiss runner Muriel Furrer: we have lost a runner with a great future ahead of her.”

Furrer, aged just 18, suffered a serious fall last Thursday while competing in the World Championships in her junior category. She suffered head trauma and was evacuated by helicopter to the Zurich hospital, where she finally died.

The UCI and the World Championship Organising Committee have offered their condolences to the Swiss Cycling Federation, as well as to his family and friends.
