The Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner (1st) had already secured his place at the world No. 1 position until 2025. Sinner was not satisfied with this achievement and this Sunday he beat local player Taylor Fritz (12th) 6-3, 6-4 and 7-5 to become champion at the US Open for the first time and move even further up the ranking.
In this way, the native of San Candido, who had become only the eighth player to exceed the 10,000-point barrier, moved towards 11,180 units by winning his 16th title on the circuit, the sixth during 2024, the second Grand Slam category, gaining a lead of more than 4,000 over the German Alexander Zverev (2nd), his closest pursuer, who climbed two positions up in the ranking by closing the account at 7,075.
A few places below are Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz (third), Serbian Novak Djokovic (fourth) and Russian Daniil Medvedev (fifth), with total points of 6,690, 5,560 and 5,475 respectively, after losing 670, 1,900 and 800 crucial points in the second round, third round and quarter-finals at Flushing Meadows respectively.
It is worth noting that there are only three major tournaments left for the best rackets on the planet, all on cement, as a result of the Masters 1000 celebrations in Shanghai and Paris at the beginning and end of October respectively, and the ATP Finals in Turin, Italy in mid-November.
