A few minutes before the start of the Copa Sudamericana round of 16 match against Cruzeiro in Brazil, Boca received great news for next year: they have qualified for the 2025 Club World Cup. Among other teams, the Xeneizes will compete against Real Madrid, Manchester City, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, PSG and River.

Diego Martínez’s team secured their presence in the next international competition even before playing their match thanks to Nacional de Uruguay’s defeat against San Pablo in the Copa Libertadores. In the first leg in Montevideo they tied 0-0 and this Thursday, in Brazil, the Sao Paulo team won 2-0. In this way, since only those who play for the Copa Libertadores add points for the CONMEBOL ranking, Boca always depends on other results during 2024, since the results of the Sudamericana are not taken into account for the table.

Boca thus became the second Argentine team to qualify for the first major Club World Cup to be organized by FIFA next year. River had already made its appearance in the tournament to be held in the United States a short time ago. Talleres de Cordoba was another team that had a chance to join the competition, but its chances ended after a defeat at Monumental against Millonario. San Lorenzo suffered the same fate, losing 1-0 against Atletico Minero in Brazil, also in the Copa Libertadores.

Martinez’s team is the 29th team to qualify for the tournament, which will have international presence from all continents.
