WASHINGTON – American singer Taylor Swift said she felt fear and guilt after three concerts in Vienna were cancelled as a result of a suicide bombing plot.

“The cancellation of our concerts in Vienna was devastating. The reason for the cancellations filled me with a new feeling of fear and tremendous guilt because many had planned to attend these concerts,” she said in a message on Instagram.

The Vienna concerts, which were part of Swift’s record-breaking Eras tour, were cancelled after authorities warned of a plot by supporters of the jihadist group Islamic State.

Police arrested three suspects for the alleged threat of attack. The United States says it has shared intelligence information to help in the investigation.

Taylor Swift’s Thank You

The prime suspect, a 19-year-old Austrian, confessed to planning to carry out an attack with explosives and knives, according to the head of the Austrian National Intelligence Agency (DSN), Omar Haijawi-Pirchner.

In the message posted on social media, Swift thanked the authorities.

“I was also very grateful for the authorities because thanks to them we were mourning concerts and not lives. I was encouraged by the love and unity I saw in the fans,” she said.

The European leg of Swift’s sold-out tour began in Paris in May and went through Sweden, Portugal, Spain, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, Germany and Poland.

It concluded on Tuesday at London’s Wembley Stadium.
