Madonna">Madonna will celebrate her 66th birthday with a private evening tour of the famous Italian archaeological site Pompeii, officials said.

The prefect of Naples, Michele Di Bari, denied speculation in the Italian media that the singer was planning a big birthday party in the ancient city destroyed in 79 A.D. when Mount Vesuvius erupted. But he confirmed that Madonna was planning a private evening tour on Friday that was purely cultural in nature.

“She loves Pompeii, she loves the archaeological park and she can’t wait to come,” he told reporters on Tuesday.

For decades, archaeologists have excavated the ruins of Pompeii, regularly uncovering beautifully preserved frescoes, pottery and, this week, a new set of human remains.

Madonna, whose family is from Italy’s Abruzzo region, has reportedly been in Italy for several days as the guest of designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.

On Tuesday night, she was filmed taking a night stroll in the seaside resort of Portofino wearing black lace and carrying an umbrella. She later had dinner with her two daughters and her companions at Portofino’s famous Puni restaurant, located on the main square.

Madonna completed her “Celebration” tour in May with a huge free concert on Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach.

An email was sent to Madonna’s publicist but there was no immediate response.
