The former cricketer said, “Linking cricket with foreign policy means that the purpose of the game, which should be just entertainment and competition, will come under the influence of politics and diplomacy.” He also clarified that although playing cricket in Pakistan can be a historic occasion, it will depend on the diplomatic position of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the government.
There has been no bilateral cricket series between India and Pakistan since 2007, and the Indian team has always been hesitant to go to Pakistan due to political tensions.
