After Hurricane Helen and Milton devastated places, Taylor Swift decided to support the affected communities by contributing a sizeable five million dollars to relief efforts.
The substantial donation was disclosed and the singer’s generosity was commended by Claire Babineaux-Fontenot, executive director of “Feeding America,” in a message posted on the organization’s Instagram page.
Babineaux-Fontenot expressed gratitude on behalf of the group and said that the money will be used to “provide essential food, clean water, and supplies to people affected by these devastating storms.” She also underlined how important collaboration is at these kinds of pivotal moments.
Hurricane Milton is currently heading toward Florida’s Gulf Coast, and forecasters predict it could be one of the most destructive storms in that region, with impact expected on Wednesday night. Even hours before its arrival, the damage was very noticeable, as shown in several videos on social media.
On the other hand, Hurricane Helene already caused havoc two weeks ago when it made landfall in Florida as a Category 4 hurricane and left a trail of destruction stretching for more than 800 kilometers, with more than 230 deaths in six states, figures that earned it the title of being the second deadliest hurricane in the last 50 years in the United States , only surpassed by the devastating Hurricane Katrina.
Taylor Swift isn’t the only big name to show support during this difficult time. Country legend Dolly Parton also made a significant contribution in partnership with Walmart and several of its companies, including Dollywood Parks & Resorts, The Dollywood Foundation, Dolly Parton’s Stampede and Pirates Voyage, to help communities in Appalachia.
Additionally, Parton made a personal donation of $1 million to the Mountain Ways Foundation, dedicated to providing immediate relief to victims of natural disasters, which was matched by all of the aforementioned companies for a total of nearly $5 million.
Through their combined efforts, both Swift and Parton are helping to alleviate the suffering of thousands of people affected by these hurricanes, and demonstrating how public figures can make a difference in times of crisis.
