Nell Smith, a promising Canadian artist known for her collaborations with the group “The Flaming Lips”, died in a traffic accident. She was 17 years old.
“We have something very sad to announce tonight,” said singer Wayne Coyne during his concert on Monday night in Portland, in the state of Oregon, in the northwest of the United States.
She added: “We have a Canadian friend called Nell. We recorded an amazing album with her three years ago, an album full of Nick Cave songs. Today we have very sad messages: she died in a car accident last night.”
Musician Simon Raymonde revealed the teenager was working on an album: “She was only 17 and was preparing to release her first solo album in early 2025 with Bella Union (the label), made in Brighton with Jack from Penelope Isles and Lily Wolter.”
