Jennifer Lopez said Wednesday in an interview with Interview Magazine that she is “excited” to be single after filing for divorce from American actor Ben Affleck last August.
“I’m excited now” to be told I’m just going to be on my own, the 55-year-old singer and actress told journalist Nikki Glaser in her first comments on her split from Affleck after two years of marriage.
“Being in a relationship doesn’t define me. I can’t look for happiness in other people. I have to have happiness within myself,” the ‘Let’s Get Loud’ singer added.
The actress filed for divorce on August 20 in the Superior Court of Los Angeles County (California) and asked to revert to her name of Jennifer Lynn Lopez because she does not want to legally bear the surname Affleck.
The so-called ‘Diva of the Bronx’ established in the legal document the date of her separation from her partner on April 26, a little more than a week before the May 6 gala at the Metropolitan Museum, which she attended alone, giving rise to rumors about her marriage.
Lopez also told the court in her divorce petition that neither of them wants spousal support and that the separation of assets is yet to be determined.
After leaving the $60 million home he shared with the New Yorker, Affleck, 52, rented a property near where the three children he had with actress Jennifer Garner live, from where he continued working on his projects and later bought a house.
