Chris Espinosa joined Apple when he was just 14 years old. Today, at 63, he remains a key part of the technology company.
From the very beginning, Espinosa witnessed the birth of modern technology. His passion began at the Byte Shop, where he met Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak.
Despite some teachers advising him to stay away from Jobs and Wozniak, Espinosa decided to join the Apple project. From that moment on, his life changed forever.
“I fell in love with the Apple I,” Espinosa said, recalling his first experience with the computer that would kick-start Apple’s technological revolution.
His career in the company was broad and diverse. He dropped out of the University of Berkeley and began working in Apple’s publishing department.
Espinosa began programming in BASIC in Jobs’ garage. “I started writing from the garage,” he said, reflecting on how his first steps shaped his long career at Apple.
Over the years, Espinosa became director of documentation for the Macintosh project and worked on many other notable projects.
He has participated in initiatives such as AppleScript, Mac OS X, iOS Family Sharing and iCloud, demonstrating his ability to adapt to technological changes.
Despite not receiving the same recognition as other long-time Apple employees, Espinosa stood out for his loyalty and commitment to the company.
“Wozniak saved me,” he said, recalling the “Woz Plan” that gave him access to company stock and secured his financial future.
