The most installed chat app in Spain received an important function to mark chats as read and thus be able to organize everything a little from the main conversation screen. Now it is going to give a complete twist to one of the functions that has been touched the least since it began to be used openly by many years ago in Spain: the “writing” notification that appears at the top of the chat window.
This notification indicates that at that moment the friend, family member or contact is typing a message that will be about to send it. It is a characteristic that helps in the interrelation between two people or in a group so that they wait for the message to be received before responding; That is, it improves conversations so that they are more fluid.
It has now been found that WhatsApp is developing a new experience so that conversations are more dynamic– The “typing” indicator feature has been redesigned for individual and group chats.
In beta version 2.24.21.18 of WhatsApp for Android, the “typing” indicator appears right on the same screen or conversation window below the last message sent instead of being located on the top bar as it has been for so many years.
What generates this novelty is that from that space now you can see how the contact is typing before sending the message and this avoids having to look over and over again at the top of the chat; a much improved experience and even more so these days when most smartphones are very elongated.

WhatsApp has not only stopped indicating that someone is “writing”, but it uses the same experience when recording a voice memo for the microphone icon to appear, as shown in the two captures obtained by WaBetaInfo.
And what is of great importance now is the Customized user account icon with profile imagesince it will be used to indicate that a user writes in a group, just as it happens in individual chats.
In groups, when several users write at the same time, its different icons will appear to indicate the action to be another of the biggest novelties of this new experience, since previously only the name of one user appeared even if there were several “typing” at the same time.
This novelty is already being tested in the beta of WhatsApp for Android and in the coming weeks it will be opened to more users to end with a release of the final version to completely transform the WhatsApp “writing” notification.
