Mexico City. Within the framework of the presidential inauguration of Claudia Sheinbaum as the first woman to occupy the presidency of Mexico, Former president Felipe Calderón Hinojosa sent him a message of good wishes and diplomacy through the social network X.
Calderón, who governed Mexico between 2006 and 2012expressed hope that Sheinbaum can be a “true head of state” and not just a partisan leader. On her social networks she shared her message, emphasizing the importance of the new president governing for all Mexicans, promoting national reconciliation and strengthening democratic institutions.
“Let it govern for everyone and begin a stage of reconciliation, reconstruction of institutions and respect for the environment.“, emphasized the PAN member.
The message highlights the political friction between the two, since, during her term as head of government of Mexico City, Sheinbaum criticized Calderón’s security strategy on multiple occasions, particularly his “war on drug trafficking.”“, while Calderón pointed out deficiencies in Sheinbaum’s management in areas such as security and mobility of the capital.
For his part, Jorge Mynez, representative of the Citizen Movement party, also used social networks to congratulate the new president. In her message, she highlighted the importance of a woman leading the country, while asking that Mexican women stop facing injustices such as imprisonment for deciding about their body or the lack of medical care for girls with cancer.
