Harris mocks Trump at celebrity-studded Los Angeles fundraiser

LOS ANGELES (AP) Vice President Kamala Harris mocked her Republican rival Donald Trump during a swanky fundraiser Sunday, telling her donors that her crowds are pretty big, before heading to Nevada for a public event. take place in the same place where the former president appeared two weeks ago.

During the presidential debate, Harris appeared to make Trump uncomfortable when she said that people often walked out of her events before they were over because of her rants. And she has maintained these attacks throughout her campaign.

He also entered what Trump considers his immigration territory with a visit on Friday to the border town of Douglas, Arizona. It was his first trip to the US-Mexico border since he assumed the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination after President Joe Biden withdrew.

Harris’ four-day tour of the West Coast of the United States has several objectives. It began and closed in two states without clear political preference, Arizona and Nevada, where the vice president is trying to shore up her support while Trump incessantly attacks her on illegal immigration. The central part of his tour, in California, was dedicated to raising funds in his state of residence.

Harris’ visit to the border seemed to irritate Trump. The former president has spent the last two days of the campaign criticizing the vice president, intensifying his personal attacks and claiming that she is responsible for the border invasion, in addition to stoking unfounded fears that she would promote anarchy if elected.

Harris responded to his insults as she usually does, despite Trump calling her mentally disabled.

“We see the old worn-out spectacle and the same old worn-out play,” he told a crowd of donors in Los Angeles, some of whom shouted, “Boring!”

Harris has warned that the race could not be closer, a race defined by the margin of error. But on Sunday he added in Los Angeles: The elections are here and let me be clear. We are going to win.

The fundraising event was packed with celebrities: Stevie Wonder, Keegan Michael-Key, Sterling K. Brown, Demi Lovato, Jessica Alba and Lily Tomlin. Halle Bailey and Alanis Morissette had musical acts.

During her Los Angeles event, and one held in San Francisco the day before, a total of $55 million was raised for Harris’ campaign.

The vice president continues to accumulate support among Republicans. Former Arizona Senator Jeff Flake became the most recent to express his support. He attributed good character and love for the country, and said he wants a president who does not treat his political opponents as enemies or try to undermine the will of voters.

Flake, a longtime critic of the previous president, joins a list of anti-Trump Republicans who have said they will vote for the Democratic candidate. Among them are Dick Cheney, the deeply conservative former vice president, and his daughter, Liz.
