The US evacuates its embassy in Lebanon and keeps only essential personnel

UNITED STATES – The United States ordered and authorized this Saturday the departure of non-essential workers from its Embassy in Lebanon and warned that it could impose new restrictions on the travel of American personnel for security reasons amid the Israeli offensive and the death of a leader of Hizbul, Hasn Nasrallah.

In a statement, the State Department highlights the “volatile and unpredictable security situation in Beirut” and orders the evacuation of non-essential workers hired directly by the US and family members of diplomatic mission officials.

“Additional travel restrictions could be imposed on US personnel under the security responsibility of the Head of Mission, with little or no advance notice due to increased security concerns or threats,” the note completes.

The US maintains a “do not travel” advisory to Lebanon and has urged its citizens to leave the country immediately in recent weeks due to the risk of crime, terrorism, riots, kidnappings and the “risk of armed conflict”, which has precisely intensified in the last week.
