Augusta National Assesses Damage Caused By Hurricane Helene

The president of Augusta National Golf Club, Fred Ridley, stated that the club is evaluating the damage to the renowned course following Hurricane Helene’s strong Friday morning impact on the region.

The club’s primary focus, according to a statement from Ridley, is on providing assistance to Augusta residents, business owners, and employees who were impacted by the devastation. Gov. Brian Kemp of Georgia said that the storm caused over a million people in the state to lose power and that at least fifteen people died there.

“Our Augusta community has suffered a catastrophic and historic impact from Hurricane Helene,” stated Ridley. “We are currently assessing the effects at Augusta National Golf Club.”

“In the meantime, our focus and efforts are primarily with our staff, neighbors and business owners in Augusta. Our thoughts and prayers are with them, as well as all those affected in Georgia and the Southeast.”

Augusta experienced tropical storm force winds Friday morning. According to the National Weather Service, a wind gust of 82 mph was observed at the Augusta Regional Airport. First responders reported that trees fell on many homes, cars, and roads in the area. There was significant damage to neighborhoods near the Augusta National Golf Club .

There were nearly 225,000 people without power in Augusta, according to The Augusta Chronicle. Augusta National Golf Club is scheduled to host the 89th edition of the Masters , the first major championship of the season, from April 10-13, 2025.
