Renowned musicians and social activists Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas O’Connell declared their support for Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee for president and U.S. vice president.

The musicians supported their choice in a video posted to Eilish’s Instagram account by underlining the battles that Harris and her running companion, Tim Walz, had waged to defend “reproductive freedom, the defense of the planet, and democracy in the country.”

The Los Angeles native cast her vote for Harris and Walz, saying the candidates are committed to stopping extremist agendas that threaten her freedom and the future of the country. Finneas , who is also a 19-time Grammy Award winner with his sister , stressed the importance of stopping the so-called ‘Project 2025’ policies, which he called dangerous.

“We voted for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz because they are fighting to protect our reproductive freedom, our planet, and our democracy,” Eilish said, stressing the importance of this election for her generation and the next. “Vote like your life depends on it, because it does,” she stressed.

Finneas O’Connell added , “We cannot let extremists control our lives, our freedoms, and our future. The only way to stop them and the dangerous agenda of the 2025 project is to vote for and elect Kamala Harris.”

The Eilish siblings’ endorsement brings them into line with a long list of notable figures who have publicly supported Vice President Harris during the election campaign. This political action fits a pattern in which famous people use their position to express their ideas at critical points in US politics.

The most well-known celebrity to support Kamala Harris is none other than Taylor Swift. She posted on Instagram shortly after the vice president and Republican candidate Donald Trump’s debate ended, declaring, “I will be voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 presidential election.”

The US voter registration website, vote.gov, saw a notable spike in traffic as a result of this forthright declaration. The singer, who has millions of social media followers, posted a personal link to the US General Services Administration website that 337,826 people clicked on after she showed her support for Kamala.

This action served as more evidence of the 34-year-old singer’s enormous power over her fan base and their impact on political engagement. In her article, Swift commended Vice President Harris’s work and stated that Democrats are “fighting for rights and causes that need a warrior to defend them.”

Swift not only supported Harris’s candidacy but also advised her fans—especially the younger generation—to register to vote and do their research on the candidates before casting their ballots at voting places. She stressed the value of early voting and knowledge in her post.

The executive director of the website, Andrea Hailey, stated that the “Swift effect” is partially to blame for the notable surge in activity on vote.gov. Highlighting Taylor Swift’s capacity to galvanize her fan base and promote civic engagement, Hailey stated that “Taylor Swift’s impact on voter engagement is undeniable.”
