BUENOS AIRES – The new album by the unclassifiable Charly García, one of the most outstanding musicians in Argentine history, became a huge success in the South American country in less than 48 hours, both in sales and online reproductions, according to a report by the record label Sony Music on Friday.

“The Logic of the Scorpion,” the 72-year-old musician’s first work after his previous studio album, “Random” in 2017, placed its 13 songs among the 50 most listened to in Argentina on the Spotify platform, where it was published on Wednesday at 9 p.m. local time.

Even the song that opens the album, “Rompela”, is number 5 among the most played in the South American country.

In addition, the 7,000 units of the limited, numbered “deluxe edition” are about to sell out.

The artist’s new production combines previously unreleased tracks with covers of his own songs and those of artists such as John Lennon, Luis Alberto Spinetta and Roger McGuinn.

The album also features the participation of collaborators such as David Lebón and Pedro Aznar, who accompanied García in the renowned group Serú Girán, as well as others such as Fito Páez and Hilda Lizarazu.

“A new milestone in the history of the great Charly, like every work he did in his life,” described the record company, which explained that one of the songs features the voice of the late Luis Alberto Spinetta, thanks to an old recording of ‘El Flaco’.

The new album was produced by the singer, who was supported by Matías Sznaider as recording and mixing engineer.

This release marks Garcia’s return after an extended period of silence, during which he battled several health issues, including complications from hip surgery that kept him hospitalized repeatedly.

Rumors about her real status were dispelled last March when some public images of her began to appear and it became known that she was about to release a new work, which is the one that is being released today.

García, author of historic songs such as “Demoliendo hoteles”, “Rezo por vos” and “Nos sigue pegando abajo”, has dozens of studio albums behind him, among them fundamental pieces of Latin American rock such as “Clics modernos” (1983) and “Say No More” (1996).

He also led the legendary bands Serú Giran and La Máquina de Hacer Pájaros (“The bird-making machine”) , in addition to having formed the duo with Nito Mestre, Sui Generis.
