Reports have confirmed the death of Rich Homie Quan, an Atlanta-born rapper who collaborated with Young Thug in the group Rich Gang. He was 34.

He began his career in 2011 and rose to fame in popular culture with 2013’s ‘Type of Way.’

According to TMZ, a representative for the Fulton County Mortuary confirmed his death. The family said they are “extremely saddened and grieved.”

The cause of death has not yet been revealed.

Quan was born in Atlanta, Georgia in October 1989 with the name Dequantes Lamar. He attended Ronald McNair Senior High School and aspired to become a professional baseball player as a youth.

His skills as a center fielder and leadoff hitter earned him a scholarship to Fort Valley State University, but he dropped out after two weeks due to the cost of tuition.

Lamar continued to commit robberies even after he was hired by an airport, and he spent fifteen months in jail. Following his release from prison, Lamar focused on his musical endeavors.

He first gained popularity in 2013 with “Type of Way,” which helped him reach another hit in 2015 with “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh).” By then, he had already formed Rich Gang with fellow rapper Young Thug and Cash Money Records founder Birdman, and he had made his own breakthrough in 2014 with the song “Lifestyle.”

Lamar filed a $2 million lawsuit against his former record company Think It’s a Game in November 2016, alleging he was underpaid in royalties. He was eventually found guilty of breach of contract after they countersued him.

In 2018, Lamar released his debut studio album Rich as in Spirit.
